ISA CZECH OPEN - English version of report
On Saturday, May 31 in Kolin, the Czech Republic international tournament was held in the sport ju-jutsu ISA CZECH OPEN. Czechs were very pleased to host this tournament under the auspices of an international organization International Association Shinbudo and got more involved in what is happening in this association.
This was the first year of this tournament. And even though the plans were originally larger than was realized, it was a successful action. In addition to the Czechs, Slovaks and Hungarians also made it to the tournament. ISA CZECH OPEN was attended by 50 fighters total from 14 clubs: Yawara Ju-jitsu Prešov, Highland Warriors Fight Academy - Hungarian Kempo Federation, Team Wolverine Kolín, BUDO FEL ČVUT, Haciman Team Praha, Kobra Kladno, Kosagym Horní Počernice, Koval Dream Team, SOSHIKI Tanvald, ŠBU AKJ Plzeň, ŠBU Blatná, Tiger Relac Club Chomutov, SKP Judo Náchod a TJ Start Kolín.
The event was initiated with a parade, which was followed by performance from Kolin majorette club TS Vergillio. Then the competition began. The quality was really high because several national champions and medalists from the European Championships and World Championships participated. The smooth conduct of the tournament and compliance with the rules then oversaw four judges Tomas Hrncal, Jan Rychnovsky a Miroslav Polak, under the direction of Martin Matous, president of the Czech Union Allkampf-jitsu.
The tournament started with student categories. Younger pupil competition won after a big fight Adam Pech over Tomas Matousek, who finished second. In the category of older pupils there were already two weight divisions. The category under 40 kg eventually won Hungarian athlete Abel Lacza. The silver prize went to Tomas Chvatal and bronze Martin Tasutij. Gold in the under 60 kg division, finally after two tough matches won Kolin talent Filip Vesely before Josef Ptacek of Kosagym.
Then followed matches by juniors and women. Juniors were very widely represented, giving viewers a decent amount of matches that did not disappoint in their quality. Across the opponents Vojtech Dzik fought his way to the bronze. Particularly dangerous was his round kick Ushiro-geri. Silver place fought out a great representative of the Hungarian Krisztian Karacsonyi and demonstrated at what level Hungarian Kempo is. Michal Stodulka eventually managed to beat all opponents thanks to his balanced combination of kung-fu and judo.
Female junior category clearly won the great fighter of the TRC Chomutov Veronika Pecáková. Beat the less experienced Luna Slunečková TJ Start of Kolin, who took second place.
In the women's category there was highly anticipated duel between two national champion Hana Hnoupkova (CZE +70 kg champion and reigning vice-champion of Europe) and Veronika Pecakova (CZE -70kg champion and 3rd from MS +60 kg, fighting in higher age group). This match unfortunately didn’t play out. Thanks to very bad luck in the previous match Hana Hnoupková injured her knee. Ranking in the end: Veronika Pecakova gold, silver for Hana Hnoupkova and Lenka Sluneckova bronze.
And now we are getting to the categories of men. Gold -62 kg gained experienced Slovak Juraj Pecovsky representative ahead of domestic Jan Svetlik, who however, presented a very nice goshi-wazoo. Juraj mentioned before the tournament what hell of a diet that he had to go through. Luckily it paid off.
Category -69 kg completely mastered Ales Smetana from home Team Wolverine. Not only defeated all opponents, but many also by whole class and showed a really wide range of techniques. The Second place gained coach of Kobry Kladno Ales Hrach with his outstading performance and third place went dangerous Hungarian fighter Megyeri Benjamin.
-77 Kg weight class became, as usual, the most numerous. Three champions hacked through the pyramid to fight over precious medals, Tomas Pohorelec (TRC pupil Chomutov, in addition to fighting a successful BJJ competitor), who claimed gold, Petr Gabriel (SBU AKJ Plzeň coach, known for his KO kick-ushiro mawashi-geri ) finished silver and Lukas Kopecky (from Team Wolverine Kolin, junior medalist MS, ISA CZECH OPEN was his first tournament among adults), who won the bronze. Fighting in this division were also two Slovaks, Milan Pecovsky and Maros Migra, who ended the unlucky fourth. Although they didn’t claim medals in the strong competition, they showed real quality typical of Slovak ju-jutsu.
Category -85 kg finals yielded very interesting match between the home trainer Martin Heller and Vojtech Fiala of BUDO FEL ČVUT, Czech champion in taekwondo ITF and Europien championship medalist. The match was very wild. While Fiala preferred stand-up Heller pushed to fight on the ground. Final match was unfortunately terminated prematurely due to disqualification of Vojtech Fiala and so Martin Heller couldn’t enjoy the gold as much. Bronze medal gained Jan Drlik with his courageous performance.
It’s a shame that division -94 kg was so poorly attended and its sole representative Jakub Drabek had to be transferred to +94 kg division. Which get together in unprecedented numbers and quality. For the gold fought Ondrej Edl (SBU AKJ Plzeň, Czech champion) and Jan Pewner (z budo CTU, formal European champion). After heavy battle Ondrej Edl came out happier. Third place in the tough competition earned Jiri Hoch.
The ending point of the program were team matches. Home Team Wolverine Kolin and BUDO FEL ČVUT fought. There were a number of handsome matches. The 6:1 victory was to enjoy the home Team, BUDO FEL ČVUT resigned after a hopeless state of 4:1. But the truth is that the home team specifically prepared for the tournament and were at an advantage. Team tournament has not resulted in any rivalry, but a friendly handshake.
After the solemn closing ceremony and awarding of medals, joint reception and wild afterparty followed, which especially Hungarians and Slovaks thoroughly enjoyed. We hope that everyone involved liked the tournament and that we will meet again next year, both in greater numbers and more varied international composition and help to broaden and strengthen the idea of shinbudo and spread throughout Europe discipline sport ju-jutsu.
Finally, we would like to thank the fighters that came to compete with us, and especially the Slovaks and Hungarians that weighed such a long journey.
OSU!
